#FGSRoadTrip

Kim and I had the greatest time recently, heading out to the FGS conference in FortWayne this year via car, instead of our more common mode of transportation--plane.  We had the greatest time.  You wouldn't want to do it all the time, but sometimes it is just awesome, peaceful, and exciting at the same time, to strike out on a long road trip.  As I mentioned on our Instagram and Facebook accounts, everyone should drive across this country every once in a while just to remember how big this place is.

I think it is so good to drive across this beautiful country of ours every once in a while to remember how huge this earth is and how many interesting people there are out there.  Flying is nice--and I wouldn't trade that modern convenience, but there is nothing like a long road trip to remind us how amazing our immigrant and pioneer ancestors were.

Along the way, we stopped at some of Kim's family history sites, including the motel that his grandparents built in the late 1940s.  It was such an awesome step back in time and we had so much fun. We were able to stop at his Mother's gravesite and leave some flowers.  That's always nice when we live so far away.

I found myself taking screen shots on my phone while I was looking at Google Maps, to celebrate and record that we were there.  It's kind of like taking a picture, only better, because it leaves a record for future posterity of where something exactly took place.  I accidentally discovered a great new way to preserve your past and the present at the same time.

If you have an instagram account, be sure to follow us @familychartmaster.  We have lots of great new things planned for the account this fall including behind the scenes stories, new chart designs we are creating and weekly quotes about family.  And we'd love to post a photo of you with your Family ChartMasters' chart.  Feel free to send us an email with your photo and you could be the #fcmclients of the week.
